State police want to alert people of a scam.
They say phone calls have come threatening arrests of those who don’t pay.
The troopers say the calls look like they come from headquarters in Las Cruces, but they actually come from con artists.
Reports indicate the people answering the calls hear that they have warrants for their arrests. However, if they pay the money, then those warrants disappear.
Carlsbad Police tell the Current-Argus that other scams target residents at the moment.
They claim phone calls have come from people claiming to represent the IRS.
