Judge: Alumni group must give up $5M to NMMI

A judge says the alumni association must surrender $5 million to NMMI.

However, the association may appeal this ruling to the state’s highest court.

This two year battle between the association and the institute has cost over a million dollars.

The judge says the association can either give the money directly to the institute or the NMMI Foundation.

Dan Whitfield from the association tells the Roswell Daily Record that its board of directors intends to have a conference call today to determine what it wants to do next.

Whitfield thinks the association remains tied to the institute, even though the institute’s board of regents decided three months ago to sever that relationship.
