A man in Roswell has just celebrated his hundredth birthday.
The Elks Lodge allowed the raising of American and British flags to mark the occasion for Bill Slade on Saturday.
The Roswell Daily Record reports someone from the lodge contacted the Royal Air Force, and seven active members came to thank Slade for fighting in the Eagle Squadron in World War Two over England and France.
These RAF members recently returned from combat duty in the Middle East before training in the United States.
The mayor has declared Sept. 5 William “Bill” Slade Day going forward.
