Clovis Woman Arrested After Hours Long Standoff

A BAD DAY FOR A CLOVIS WOMAN ENDED WITH SWAT OFFICERS STORMING HER HOUSE. IT HAPPENED WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. CLOVIS POLICE RESPONDED TO THE HOME OF 60-YEAR-OLD MARIA MARTINEZ AT 3-38 BECAUSE OF REPORTS OF A DOMESTIC DISPUTE. WHEN THEY ARRIVED AT THE SCENE WITNESSES REPORTED A WOMAN FIRING A GUN AND SCREAMING FOR SOMEONE NOT TO MESS WITH HER. INVESTIGATORS TELL US OFFICERS SAW THE WOMAN FIRE THE GUN AGAIN BEFORE RETREATING INSIDE. POLICE TRIED TO CONTACT MARTINEZ THROUGH A P-A SYSTEM. THEY ALSO CALLED HER 29 TIMES AND SENT HER 58 TEXT MESSAGES. THE SWAT TEAM WAS CALLED IN…FIVE HOURS AND AN ARREST WARRANT LATER…OFFICERS IN TACTICAL GEAR STORMED THROUGH THE WINDOWS AND TOOK MARTINEZ INTO CUSTODY WITHOUT INCIDENT. SHE’S CHARGED WITH NEGLIGENT USE OF A DEADLY WEAPON AND DISORDERLY CONDUCT.
