EDDY COUNTY VOTERS APPEAR TO BE HAPPY WITH THE GROSS RECEIPTS TAX RATE RIGHT WHERE IT IS…VOTING DOWN PRPOSED INCREASES. ON THE PROPOSED INCREASE BENEFITING CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES, 57-HUNDRED AND 45 VOTED AGAINST THE ORDINANCE WHILE 12-HUNDRED AND 62 VOTED IN FAVOR. ON THE PROPOSED INCREASE FOR GENERAL PURPOSES, 58-HUNDRED AND 95 VOTED AGAINST THE ORDINANCE WHILE 11-HUNDRED AND 41 VOTED IN FAVOR. WE CALLED THE EDDY COUNTY CLERK TO GET THE FINAL NUMBERS AFTER THE RESULTS WERE CANVASSED THIS MORNING.

INVESTIGATORS TELL US THE 24-YEAR-OLD VICTIM WAS SITTING IN A VEHICLE WITH ANOTHER MAN IN THE DRIVEWAY OF A HOME ON EAST POE STREET — AROUND 4 O’CLOCK — WHEN WHEN SOMEONE OPENED FIRE ON THE VEHICLE. THE MAN WHO WAS SHOT DROVE THE CAR AWAY FROM THE SCENE BEFORE CALLING 9-1-1 TO MEET PARAMEDICS AT A BOWLING ALLEY ON MAIN STREET.
