Convenience Store Robbery Suspect to be Prosecuted for Violating Hobbs Act

AN ALBUQUERQUE MAN FACES FEDERAL CHARGES STEMMING FROM A CONVENIENCE STORE ROBBERY LAST WEEK IN BERNALILLO COUNTY. PROSECUTORS SAY 22-YEAR-OLD ERIC REDDICK VIOLATED BOTH THE HOBBS ACT AND FEDERAL FIREARMS LAWS WHEN HE SHOT THE STORE CLERK AND A WITNESS WHO WAS TAKING HIS PICTURE DURING THE ROBBERY. THE HOBBS ACT PROHIBITS ACTUAL OR ATTEMPTED ROBBERY OR EXTORTION AFFECTING INTERSTATE OR FOREIGN COMMERCE. REDDICK, WHO WAS ARRESTED THIS MORNING, IS BEING PROSECUTED UNDER THE FEDERAL “WORST OF THE WORST” ANTI-VIOLENCE INITIATIVE. FOR NOW, HE’S BEING HELD WITHOUT BOND, BUT WILL GO BEFORE A JUDGE TOMORROW.
