Artesia City Council Candidates

Here are the candidates running for Artesia city offices. These are the people who filed by Tuesday’s deadline. Of course, we already mentioned yesterday that nobody else has entered the mayoral race, so it certainly appears that Raye Miller will be the next Artesia mayor barring anyone else who might run a write-in campaign.

As for the city council seats, in District 1, incumbent Raul Rodriguez will run against Delia Cortez Collier. In District 3, incumbent Kent Bratcher will have a challenger in Tommy Bailes. In District 4, incumbent Terry Hill has filed to run, along with a couple other challengers. Kenneth Hart and Kevin Baggerly also filed in District 4. Michael Mondragon was the only filer for District 2, so he will run unopposed and will also likely take that seat over from Nora Sanchez, who decided not to run again. Sanchez had only come out of retirement to finish the term of Jose Luis Aguilar, who died in August of 2016.

Any write in candidates still have until January 16th to file. Applications for absentee ballots will be accepted starting on January 30th. Early voting begins February 14th and will run through March 2nd at city hall in Artesia. Election Day is March 6th, when the polls will be open from 7am to 7pm. Artesians can vote at the polling location of their choice… Either the senior center or the Faith Baptist Church.
