Aguilera Found Guilty For 2015 Rojo Murder In Artesia

It’s a guilty verdict against the man accused of killing Andres Rojo in Artesia in 2015. 23 year-old Danial Aguilera stood trial for much of last week. He was also convicted for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon for the injury to Rojo’s brother. The jury took less than two hours to deliberate before returning their guilty verdicts., Prosecuotrs alleged that Aguilera was upset because he did not receive a 4th of July party invitation. A sentencing date has not yet been set.

Power Outage After Artesia Car Crash Saturday

A weekend crash in Artesia left a number of homes and businesses without power for a short time. On Saturday, the crash happened along North 26th Street when a car struck a utility pole. Just one car was involved just after 6pm Saturday The power pole snapped in half. The arcing power lines started a small fire in a tree, which was taken care of by firefighters. No details on whether or not the driver was injured.

Dog Shot and Killed in Eddy County

EDDY COUNTY DEPUTIES WERE CALLED OUT TO A HOME ON WEST JACKSON SATURDAY NIGHT BECAUSE OF A SHOOTING. WHEN THEY ARRIVED AN UNIDENTIFIED WOMAN SAID SOMEONE SHOT HER DOG. THE ANIMAL DIED A FEW DAYS BEFORE THE WOMAN MADE THE CALL. SHE TOLD DEPUTIES SHE BELIEVED HER NEIGHBOR SHOT THE DOG BUT DID NOT GIVE A REASON WHY. SHE SAID SHE WANTED THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE TO BE AWARE AND ASKED TO SPEAK WITH ANIMAL CONTROL ABOUT THE INCIDENT.

LAST WEEK, XCEL FINISHED A 24-MILLION DOLLAR UPGRADE PROJECT…AS CREWS CLOSED IN THE FINAL SEGMENT OF A 23-POINT 7-MILE 115-KILOVOLT TRANSMISSION LOOP THAT FEEDS THE CITY’S ELECTRIC SUBSTATIONS. THE LOOP PROJECT STARTED IN 2013 WITH AN UPGRADE TO THE CAPTAIN SUBSTATION. OVER THE NEXT FOUR YEARS, NEW TRANSMISSION LINES WERE INSTALLED CONNECTING ADDITIONAL SUBSTATIONS. THE FINAL LINK WAS A 4-POINT 7-MILE LINE CONNECTING THE PRICE SUBSTATION TO THE CHAVES COUNTY SUBSTATION IN NORTHEAST ROSWELL. THE ROSWELL UPGRADES ARE PART OF A LARGER EFFORT KNOWN AS XCEL’S “POWER FOR THE PLAINS” PROJECT.

Artesia Council Approves New Swimming Pool

The Artesia City Council has voted 5-1 to build a bnew public swimming facility. The facility will go up near the junior high school and will be used by both the school district and the local hospital. Several years ago, the Artesia High School natatorium was torn down and the public has expressed wishes for a new swimming facility. The city council said it hopes to have the facility open by spring of next year.

THE ARTESIA AQUATIC CENTER FOUNDATION MADE A PRESENTATION BEFORE THE CITY COUNCIL TUESDAY NIGHT. THE AQUATIC CENTER WILL LIKELY BE BUILT IN PHASES. PLANS INCLUDE AN OUTDOOR RECREATIONAL POOL, AN INDOOR POOL WITH LANES AND A THERAPY POOL. THE OUTDOOR RECREATIONAL POOL WOULD BE THE FIRST PHASE. THE FOUNDATION IS NEGOTIATING A LAND PURCHASE NEAR PARK JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL. ARTESIA PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND ARTESIA GENERAL HOSPITAL WILL BE INVOLVED IN THE DEVELOPMENT. THE FOUNDATION HOPES TO HAVE THE RECREATIONAL POOL BUILT BY NEXT MAY.
