TX & NM Troopers Step Up 285 Enforcement

New Mexico and Texas authorities continue efforts to crack down on deadly accidents along US 285 in southern Eddy County and western Texas. Troopers from both states are now in the beginning stages of a huge enforcement effort that will have a number of checkpoints set up on both sides of the state line from Carlsbad to Fort Stockton, Texas. The effort is being funded by grant money that both states have been awarded. One checkpoint was already set up on Thursday at the former weigh station near Loving, which is now empty. Big trucks and semis were ordered to pull off the highway while troopers checked their safety equipment and driver logs. Additional patrols are also being scheduled for State Road 128 in Eddy and Lea Counties, which has also been dangerous.
