Carlsbad Police Investigating Weekend Shooting

CARLSBAD POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING A SHOOTING. DARRELL MOODY HAS THE DETAILS…

OFFICERS WERE CALLED OUT TO THE CARLSBAD MEDICAL CENTER EARLY SUNDAY MORNING AFTER A MAN WITH A GUNSHOT WOUND SHOWED UP TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM. HE VICTIM, IDENTIFIED AS DUSTIN PARTLOW, TOLD INVESTIGATORS SOMEONE IN A RED PICKUP TRUCK FOLLOWED HIM FROM THE STEVEN’S INN. PARTLOW SAYS WHEN HE GOT OUT OF HIS VEHILCE TO QUESTION WHO WAS FOLLOWING HIM, SOMEONE SHOT HIM IN THE CHEST. NO WORD ON THE MAN’S CURRENT CONDITION. CRIME STOPPERS IS OFFERING A REWARD FOR INFORMATION LEADING TO AN ARREST.

Albuquerque Woman Identified In Chavez County Crash

Authorities have identified an Albuquerque woman killed in a Chaves Coujnty crash. The crash happened last Monday on State Road 13 near mile marker 17. Troopers say 38 year-old Latoni Skinner, of Albuquerque, was in her 1999 Ford Mercury headed east at a high rate of speed. SHe reportedly went off the shoulder, overcorrected, and flipped the vehicle. A passenger in the car was thrown out, along with Skinner. Skinner died at the scene, while the passenger continues recovering at an area hospital. A second passenger was also slightly hurt.

Fire Danger COntinues Across Region

Local fire officials continue to urge residents in Southeast New Mexico to be extremely cautious with flames… especially discarding lit cigarettes, WIldfire danger continues to be extreme across the entire region. Even a chain hanging off a truck could cause a spark to fly into some dry brush or grass, lighting what turns into a huge blaze. The National Weather Service has posted red flag warnings already this month Guisty winds today will cause more concern, as the weather service says winds could gust upwards of 45 miles per hour. A few thunderstorms will be possible, but mostly in the western half of the state.

Roswell Man Racks Up 4th DWI Arrest

Man Sentenced In Death Of His Father

A Carlsbad man will go to prison for seven years in connection with the death of his father. 22 year-old Isack Rodriguez was sentenced Friday by Judge Lisa Riley in district court. At the sentencing hearing, Rodriguez said he himself misses his father. He apologized to everyone involved for the 2017 incident in which he pleaded no conterst to. Authorities say Tomas Rodriguez intervened in an argument between the younger Rodriguez and his fiance, now wife. That led to a larger disagreement between the father and son. However, the defense attorney contends that the younger man did not intend to kill his father.

Happy Valley Fire Department Purchases New Rescue Boat

The Eddy County COmmission has approved spending about 34-thousand dollars to purchase a new rescue boat for the Happy Valley Volunteer Fire Department. The boat has already been purchased and Gaylon Fuller, the fire chief at Happy Valley, says he will have the boat available for upcoming holidays, especially on the 4th of July. He says the boat can be used with a specialized dive team and also for missing persons searches. Additionally, Fuller says the boat could be used for firefighting efforts by equipping it with a pump.
