Calicoat Appointed Eddy County Magistrate Judge

New Mexico Governor Susanna Maretinez has appointed Kelly Calicoat as Eddy County Magistrate Court Judge in Division One. The appointment came on Friday from the governor, just a couple of days after he won the currently-vacant seat outright in last week’s primary election. Calicoat is a retired Eddy County Sheriff’s Deputy and would have taken the seat after winning last week’s primary election because there was no oponnent running against him in the other party. Calicoat also worked in law enforcement in Carlsbad and Ruidoso Downs, according to a statement from the governor’s office. Former Magistrate Judge Henry Castaneda resigned the position in January after accusations that he misused his judicial email account.
