Artesia Man Accused Of Assaulting Nurse Staff; Police Officers

An Artesia man remains jailed on accusations that he assaulted a nurse and police officers at Artesia General Hospital. The incident happened on Thursday when police got a call of a distrubance at the hospital involving a 36 year-old man who was later identified as Chris Duran. One of the nurses reported that Duran had struck her in the face while she was attempting to adjust his restraints. Duran is then accused of fighting with the officers who began to arrest him. He also reportedly spat in the face of one of the officers as they were leading him to a patrol car outside. Duran is now housed at the Eddy County Jail for charges of battery of a healthcare provider, battery of a peace officer, assault and resisting arrest. He’s been ordered to appear in Artesia Magistrate Court on June 20th.
