THE USDA…IS MAKING A 36-POINT 5-MILLION DOLLAR LOAN TO THE LEA COUNTY ELECTRIC COOP IN LOVINGTON…TO BUILD 73 MILES OF ELECTRIC LINE AND IMPROVE ANOTHER 57 MILES OF LINE. THE LOAN INCLUDES A MILLION DOLLARS FOR SMART GRID PROJECTS. IT’S PART OF AN OVERALL 309-MILLION DOLLAR INVESTMENT BY THE USDA IN 16 PROJECTS TO IMPROVE RURAL ELECTRIC INFRASTRUCTURE IN 12 STATES. THE LEA COUNTY ELECTRIC COOP’S SERVICE AREA INCLUDES LEA, EDDY AND CHAVES COUNTIES…AS WELL AS THREE COUNTIES IN WEST TEXAS.
