Artesia City Council Places Restrictions On Fireworks

The Artesia City Council is placing more restriction on fireworks this year due to the dangerous conditions described by city fire personnell. On Tuesday, Fire Chief Kevin Hope told the city council that dry fuel sources are a big concern, but that some of the dryness has gotten a little better in the past week or so. The council unanimously passed a resolution restricting the sale and use of fireworks like missiles, aerial spinners, bottle rockets, helicopters and ground-audible devices such as firecrackers and chasers. The restrictions could be lifted before the next council meeting on June 25th. The ban includes only the city of Artesia. Eddy County Commissioners have not taken any action on fireworks as of yet.
