THE DIOCESE…ONE OF FOUR DEFENDENTS NAMED IN A CIVIL LAWSUIT ALLEGING SEXUAL ABUSE OF A MINOR FROM 1994 TO 2001. THE LAWSUIT IDENTIFIES FATHER JOSEPH ANDERSON AND FATHER DAVID BENTLEY AS THE ABUSERS. BOTH LEFT THE DIOCESE OF LAS CRUCES IN THE SPRING OF 2002. ACCORDING TO THE STATEMENT, THE DIOCESE HAS YET TO BE SERVED WITH THE ACTUAL LAWSUIT…BUT CHURCH OFFICIALS HAVE PLEDGED THEIR COMPLETE COOPERATION.
