THE ARTESIA PUBLIC SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION HAS APPROVED FUNDING FOR PHASE TWO OF THE ARTESIA AQUATIC CENTER PROJECT. THE FIRST PHASE OF THE PROJECT, AN OUTDOOR RECREATIONAL POOL, WAS FUNDED BY 11-AND A HALF MILLION DOLLARS IN PRIVATE DONATIONS. PHASE TWO CONSISTS OF A 15-THOUSAND SQUARE FOOT FACILITY WITH TWO POOLS AND SEATING FOR ABOUT 400 PEOPLE….AT A COST OF 4.6 MILLION DOLLARS. THE CITY OF ARTESIA STILL NEEDS TO APPROVE THE AGREEMENT…AND MUST PROVIDE 2-MILLION DOLLARS IN FUNDING. WHEN IT’S DONE, THE AQUATIC CENTER WILL BE CO-OWNED BY THE CITY AND SCHOOL DISTRICT.
