Border Patrol Struggles To Meet Agent Demand

The US Border Patrol continues a massive push to hire hundreds more security agents, but recent comments by officials at the New Mexico training facility indicate they’;re not sure they’ll be able to meet the demand any time soon. Right now, there are more than 400 recruits training at the Artesia academy. Despite a heavy increase in funding from the Donald Trump administration, Chief Dan Harris Junior says that alone isn’t good enough. Harris says recruits are now getting double the training in firearms, immigration law, and scenario simulation. While Trump has said he wants to add 5-thousand new border patrol agents, the department says it’s currently 2-thousand agents below the nationally mandated number of 21-thousand.
