Artesia Man Will Stand Trial For Resisting Arrest

On the crime beat, an Artesia man will go to trial for resisting arrest. 38 year-old Gilbert Chavez was apprehended on August 26thj as he walked near the Artesia Police Department building. An officer leaving the building wrote in his report that he spotted Chavez and knew that the man had an outstanding warrant out for his arrest. As the officer approached, Chavez ran toward the nearby RV park, but was eventually found and searched. Even as the officers tried to restrain Chaves, he allegedly punched one of the officers in the chest. Chavez is now bound over for the resisting charges, along with the outstanding drug case that he had the warrant for.
