THE NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR TEACHER QUALITY JUST RELEASED A REPORT IDENTIFYING TWO STATEWIDE TEACHER EVALUATION SYSTEMS AS MODELS OF SUCCESS AND NEW MEXICO IS ONE OF THEM. Hobbs Man Killed In Tuesday Crash

A Hobbs man is identified as the victim of a deadly crash that took place Tuesday. New Mexico State Polcie reports show that Jason Thompson was killed in the head-on crash on State Road 128 when his commercial vehicle crossed the center line and struck another commercial vehicle. Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 25 year-old female driver of the other vehicle was taken to a local hospital for treatment. That woman’s name waas not released, but the report said she was from Universal City, Texas.

Netflix Chooses NM For Next Movie-Making Hub

Streaming video giant Netflix has chosen New Mexico as the site of a new US production hub. Meanwhile, the company says it is also in talks to buy an existing multi-million dollar studio complex on the edge of the state’s largest city. Albuquerque leaders annunced Tuesday that the company’s new activity in the state could generate as much as a billion dollars in spending over the next decade. However, the company is using more than 14 million dollars in state and local economic development funding, but Governor Susana Martinez said the investment on the movie-making venture would pay off big dividends for the entire state.

Artesia Volunteers To Be Honored Sunday

Another event coming up at the Artesia Historical Museum and Art Center. The 17th annual Living Treasures awards show will be this Sunday at 2pm, honoring Dora Campos and Clifton Perkins. Campos has been volunteering her time at the Adult Day Care Center, Head Start of Artesia, and Hermosa Elementary School. She is even a recipient of the Presidential Volunteer Award for volunteering more than a thousand hours in a single year. Perkins, meanwhile, took over the La Fonda restaurant in 1965, turning it into an Artesia institution. Perkins is also active in his church and volunteers his time in the community. The Museum is located at 505 West Richardson Avenue in Artesia. Refreshments will be served.
