Crowd Packs Racino Meeting Friday

Eastern New Mexicans packed a meeting room on Friday to discuss the possibility of a racino coming to the region. The New Mexico Racing COmmission held the meeting to get public input. It appeared a majority of the crowd was in support of gaming, but a number of vocal opponents did speak against gaming in general. Among the critics, though, were the mayor of Clovis, David Lansford, and Walkter Bradley, the former Lieutenant Governor of New Mexico. They cited the potential for a rise in gambling addiction and crime, while supporters noted the economic benefits that the tax revenue would bring.
