Eddy County Commissioners Approve Fire Department Expenditures

The Eddy County Commission has approved a 200-thousand dollar expenditure to fund the Artesia Fire Department. The money will be used to assist in hiring and training six new firefighters. The City of Artesia will take over the expenses once the county hands over the money, according to Kent Bratcher, the Artesia City COunsilor. Artesia Firew Chief Kevin Hope told the county copmmissioners that the new fire personnell would be used to help with ground transports of hospital patients. Additionally, the county commissioners approved a 285-thousand payment to rhe Carlsbad Fire Department to help fund a new fire station. As a result of the new expanded fire station, the existing station 4 in Carlsbad will be closed.
