Portion Of Hermosa Drive Closed For Two Months

A traffic alert for you now, as the Eddy County Public Works Department has closed a section of Hermosa Drive between East First Street and Haldeman Road. The county says the construction project will last as much as two months. The project started last week and includes a number of improvements, including widening the shoulder, striping the pavement, and repaving. No through traffic is allowed, but local residents will be allowed access.

Friday High School Football Results

High School football action from Friday night. The Artesia Bulldogs went down to Goddard, but it was a close game. Goddard slid past the Bulldogs 31-28 to remain unbeaten on the season. The defeat drops Artesia’s record to 5-4. Artesia stays on the road this week, traveling to Alamagordo, while Goddard takes on Roswell High on Friday.

Roswell took charge early in their game against Alamagordo – and never looked back. Roswell improved to 7-2 on the season with their easy 56-21 victory Friday night.

Carlsbad came up short against Las Cruces, falling by a score of 38-26. That drops the Caemen record to 4-4-1 on the season. Carlsbad faces Hobbs on the road this week.

Hobbs, meanwhile, fell quite a bit short of their average 39 points per game on Friday, scoring only 8 points in a 35-8 loss to Mayfield.

ARTESIA POLICE RECEIVE MORE THAN A DOZEN CALLS AROUND ONE O’CLOCK SATURDAY MORNING REPORTING SHOTS FIRED IN THE AREA OF 4th AND LOGAN STREETS. Roswell Man Killed In Crash On 285

New information on a deadly crash that took place near ROswell on US 285. The crash happened early Monday morning when a car slammed into the back of an 18 wheeler. New Mexico State Polcie reports indicate 34 year-old Alejandro Chavez, of Roswell, was headed south at a high rate of speed. The report says for unknown reasons, Chavez rear-ended the semi that was going the same way. The repport also says driver inattention appears to be a factor in the crash. The semi driver was not hurt.
