Environmentalists File Complaint Against BLM Land Sale

Environmentalist groups have filed a formal complaint against the Bureau of Land Management’s land lease sale. The issue is over the BLM’s upcoming land and lease sale scheduled for December, which includes more than 50 parcels of land in the Carlsbad and ROswell areas. Although the land has been identified as ideal for oil and gas activity, the environmentalist groups have serious concerns over pollution. In a statement, Environmental Defense Fund spokesperson Jon Goldstein said the BLM has given up on its responsibility to protect the environment in New Mexico amid a recent oil boom in the Permian Basin.
