Whites City Road Will Remain Open After All

A county road in Eddy County will remain open after all after the county commissioners first voted to close it. The federal government earlier ordered a complete stop to work being done on Whites City Road as part of a FEMA disaster relief project brought on by massive flooding in 2014 that damaged many roads in the county. Since the feds ordered the work to be stopped, the county said the roadway could have to close, but yesterday it was announced that a review had been done on the work in progress. Therefore, the Eddy County Commission approved paying for the rest of the project with it’s own dollars. The stoppage was ordered because the county says FEMA has been unclear on stipulating how work must be done and has begun tightening restrictions and requirements.
