Parks Affected By Gov’t Shutdown

It looks like the partial government shutdown is not having some affect on our area parks. Carlsbad Caverns and Guadalupe Mountains National Parks will have limited access. Park roads and trails will remain open to visitors, but emergency and rescue serv ices will be limioted. The Pine Springs visitor center will be closed, as well as the Carlsbad Caverns visitor center. No park ranger services are available at either park. The closure does include restrooms, trash collection and maintenance at the parks. National Park Service website and social media sites will not be monitored or updated and may not reflect current conditions. All scheduled park programs are now cancelled, including ranger-guided tours.

Roswell Opens City Buildings To Keep Warm

With a significant winter storm forecast to impact many areas of New
Mexico, including Roswell, during the next couple days, the City of Roswell is informing citizens that city buildings will serve as “warming centers” for anyone in need of a place to come inside in order to get out of the cold temperatures the storm is expected to bring. All publicly-accessible city buildings will be available as warming centers Friday during each building’s regular hours. In addition, city buildings normally open Saturday and Sunday will be available those days as well. City buildings open Saturday and Sunday (hours may vary) include the Adult and Recreation Center (807 N. Missouri Ave,), the Public Library (301 N. Pennsylvania Ave.), the Pecos Trails Transit bus terminal (515 N. Main St.), the Museum and Art Center (1011 N. Richardson Ave.) and the Visitors Center (426 N. Main St.). The city is also reminding citizens to be prepared by having enough groceries on hand and filling medications that are needed.

Two Arrested For Rash Of Carlsbad Robberies

Carlsbad Polcie confirm that two people have been arrested for a strong of robberies in town. Antonio Tornabene and Marquise Elizondo are accused of holding up three business in Carlsbad beginning on December 19th. The first business was the Family Dollar on Mermod Street. The final crime took place at the La Cueva Movie Theater Friday night, police say. The statement from Carlsbad Police say deputies continue to investigate leads that others may have been involved. Anyone with information is urged to contact either Carlsbad PD or Eddy County Crimestoppers.
