Carlsbad To Combine Non-Partisan Elections

The city of Carlsbad has opted into the provisions of the 2018 Local ELection Act, which provides the option for each municipality to have its officers elected during the November local election on non-partisan election years, or odd years. IT’S A MURAL PLANNED FOR THE NORTH FACING WALL OF THE INTERNATIONAL UFO MUSEUM AND RESEARCH CENTER. MAINSTREET ROSWELL HAS BEEN AWARDED A MATCHING NEW MEXICO RESILIENCE ALLIANCE GRANT TO HELP FUND THE PROJECT. THE MURAL WILL INCLUDE A STARRY NIGHT SKY WITH GALAXY, FEATURING A UFO SITTING IN THE DISTANCE — ITS DOORS OPEN — WITH THE ILLUSION THAT THE CURRENT PARK SIDEWALKS LEADS UP TO THE PAINTED UFO DOORWAY. IT WILL ALSO BE BRANDED WITH THE CITY SLOGAN “WELCOME TO ROSWELL…WE BELIEVE.” THERE IS NOW A CALL OUT FOR ARTISTS TO BID ON PAINTING THE MURAL.

THE UNITED WAY’S “HELP ON TAP” PROGRAM PROVIDES FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO LOCAL COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO HAVE TROUBLE PAYING THEIR WATER UTILITY BILLS. IN ORDER TO APPLY, YOU’LL NEED TO GO TO THE UNITED WAY OFFICE LOCATED AT 116 SOUTH CANYON STREET IN CARLSBAD. YOU’LL NEED TO BRING AN APPROVAL OR UNABLE TO ASSIST LETTTER, YOUR MOST CURRENT WATER BILL, A PHOTO ID FOR EVERYONE IN YOUR HOUSEHOLD AND PROOF OF INCOME. “HELP ON TAP” IS SIMILAR TO THE UNITED WAY’S OTHER UTILTY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM “HEAT N-M” THAT PAYS UP TO 120-DOLLARS ONCE A YEAR.

Bee Attack in Dexter Sends Two Men to Hospital

WE’RE LEARNING DETAILS OF A BEE ATTACK TUESDAY IN DEXTER. DARRELL MOODY HAS THE STORY…

TWO WORKERS FROM A LOCAL INTERNET PROVIDER WERE UP ON A TOWER WHEN A SWARM OF BEES ATTACKED. THEY WERE ABLE TO GET DOWN SAFELY, BUT NOT BEFORE EACH WAS STUNG DOZENS OF TIMES. LUCKILY FOR THEM, THEY WERE ACROSS THE STREET FROM A FIRE STATION WHERE THEY WERE ABLE TO RECEIVE MEDICAL ATTENTION BEFORE BEING TRANSPORTED TO EASTERN NEW MEXICO MEDICAL CENTER. DEXTER POLICE ALSO RESPONDED TO THE SCENE. SEVERAL OFFICERS AND OTHER PEOPLE WHO STEPPED IN TO HELP WERE STUNG. A HIVE WAS FOUND AT A NEARBY PARK…AND SPRAYED WITH FOAM FROM A FIRE TRUCK.

Man Arrested After Friday Pedestrian Crash In Carlsbad

We’re learning of an arrest in Carlsbad regarding a vehicle versus pedestrian crash on Friday morning. Carlsbad PD says it has charged 52 year-old Steven Smith with murder by vehicle after he struck the pedestrian at the intersection of Canyon and Plaza. Smith is currently listed with no bond. 62 year-old Daniel Lawrence Boyle, who was homeless, died of his injuries.A statement from Carlsbad PD says that investigators are waiting for official toxicology reports to determine Smith’s blood alcohol level. The statement did not provide any details about whether or not Smith was given and passed – or whether he refused a field sobriety test.

Roswell Man Arrested For Weekend Shooting That Left Woman Dead

A ROSWELL MAN IS BEHIND BARS, ACCUSED OF SHOOTING AND KILLING A WOMAN LAST WEEK. DARRELL MOODY HAS THE DETAILS…

20-YEAR-OLD ALESSANDRO ALVA IS BEING HELD IN THE CHAVES COUNTY DETENTION…CHARGED WITH MURDER IN THE DEATH FRIDAY NIGHT OF 40-YEAR-OLD JENNIFER MORRO. INVESTIGATORS WITH THE ROSWELL POLICE DEPARTMENT SAY MORRO WAS RIDING IN A PICKUP TRUCK WITH ALVA BEFORE HE DROPPED HER OFF ON THE SIDE OF WEST SECOND STREET…ONLY TO RETURN A FEW MINUTES LATER AND SHOOT HER AS SHE SAT ON A SIDEWALK. WHEN QUESTIONED BY DEPUTIES, ALVA SAID HE TRIED TO OFFER THE WOMAN A RIDE AND DENIED SHOOTING HER. HE’S BEING HELD WITHOUT BOND.

Three Killed In Crash Near Hobbs

And tragedy near Hobbs as three people have been kileld in a crash on US 62/180 near State Road 529. The crash happened Wednesday morning. Today, we’ve learned that the victims were all from Texas. 47 year-old Brady Steele, 25 year-old Dakota Lujan, and 21 year-old Nygel Key died in the crash. State Poclie say a semitruck driven by 60 year-old James Law, of Hobbs, was headed south on SR529 and did not stop at the stop sign for the highway. The semi struck the 1999 Dodge pickup the trio was traveling in. Law was not injured, but was given a ticket for failure to yield.
