WORK STARTED LAST WEEK ON NORTH WASHINGTON AVENUE FROM COLLEGE BOULEVARD TO 19th STREET. CREWS WILL RESUME WORKING TUESDAY ON SYCAMORE AVENUE FROM BLAND STREET TO THE ALLEY NORTH OF 8th STREET. LATER THIS WEEK, THEY’LL MOVE ON TO WEST ALAMEDA STREET, FROM SAUCEDO TO SUNSET AVENUES. ON SEPTEMBER 12th, THEY’RE GOING TO BEGIN WORKING ON SOUTH MAIN STREET FROM MARTIN TO JAFFA STREETS. THE “HOT RECYCLING” AS IT’S CALLED WILL REQUIRE CONTRACTOR CREWS TO CLOSE SOME TRAFFIC LANES AND — AT TIMES — ENTIRE PORTIONS OF SOME STREETS.

Roswell Fireworks Explosion Ruled Accidental

The tragic fireworks explosion that resulted in the death of a Roswell Firefighter and the injury of 10 others – has formally been ruled an accident. Investigators with the US Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Bureau interviewed a dozen firefighters involved in the incident at Roswell International Air Center. The report says that firefighters were packaging fireworks for the city’s annual 4th of July celebration, which the fire department has helped with for decades. The explosion occurred as firefighters were fusing aerial shells with electric matches. The initial explosion lead to the consumption of all of the fireworks shells and blew out all of the walls of the structure. Firefighter Jeff Stroble died of his injuries about six weeks after the accident.

CITY ADMINISTRATION OFFICES, THE ROSWELL PUBLIC LIBRARY AND ADULT CENTER WILL BE CLOSED FOR LABOR DAY. THE LANDFILL WILL ALSO BE CLOSED. THE ROSWELL MUSEUM AND ART CENTER IS ALREADY CLOSED MONDAYS. THE NON-AQUATIC SIDE OF THE RECREATOIN AND AQUATIC CENTER WILL BE CLOSED…HOWEVER THE POOLS WILL BE OPEN. THE SPRING RIVER PARK AND ZOO, AS WELL AS THE DOWNTOWN VISITORS CENTER WILL BE OPEN. PECOS TRAILS TRANSIT BUSSES WILL RUN ALONG MAIN STREET BETWEEN 10-28 AM AND 6-52 PM. TRASH COLLECTION WILL BE ADJUSTED…MONDAY COLLECTIONS WILL HAPPEN ON TUESDAY…WITH TUESDAY’S REGULAR COLLECTION PUSHED BACK TO WEDNESDAY.
