IT HAPPENED MONDAY AFTERNOON AROUND 3-20 ON SOUTH MAIN STREET, NEAR THE ROSWELL RELIEF ROUTE, SOUTH OF ROSWELL. CRASH INVESTIGATORS TELL US 18-YEAR-OLD ALAZAY WRIGHT WAD DRIVING A 2005 FORD FOCUS SOUTH ON MAIN STREET WHEN HE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND STRUCK A TREE IN THE MEDIAN HEAD-ON. PARAMEDICS DECLARED WRIGHT DEAD AT THE SCENE. ALCOHOL DOES NOT APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN A FACTOR IN THE CRASH…HOWEVER, INVESTIGATORS SAY WRIGHT WAS NOT WEARING A SEATBELT.

Carlsbad Man Convicted For 2018 Armed Robbery Spree

A Carlsbad man was found guilty last week for pulling off an armed robbery spree that included the holdup of the La Cueva 6 theater in December of last year. The Carlsbad Current-Argus reports 23 year-old Marquise Elizondo was convicted for armed robbery, aggravated assault, and tampering with evidence. His jury trial last three days in Eddy County District Court. When he is sentenced, a judge could order him to spend as much as 22 years in state prison. Authorities say Elizondo and another man named Antonio Tornabene were arrested several days after the movie theater heist and were suspected of holding up a Family Dollar store and a beauty shop before that.

THE US DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION…AWARDING 12-AND-A HALF MILLION DOLLARS — BY WAY OF A NATIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT GRANT — TO THE STATE DOT TO MAKE REPAIRS ALONG A SECTON OF US HIGHWAY 285 BETWEEN LOVING AND THE TEXAS BORDER. THE MONEY WILL FUND A LARGER PLAN TO MAKE THE HIGHWAY SAFER THROUGHOUT SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO. TO DATE, THE NEW MEXICO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION HAS COMMITTED 30-MILLION DOLLARS TO THE INITIAL PHASE OF THE US 285 RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT.
