Sen. Udall Honors Navajo Code Talker From NM

U.S. Senator Tom Udall (D-N.M.) honored the life and service of Joe Vandever Sr., a Navajo Code Talker and veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps in a speech submitted to the Congressional Record. Vandever passed away five days before his 97th birthday in January, leaving behind 9 children, 36 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. In a statement, Udall said that Vandever served his country in an instrumental role in World War II. Along with other Navajo Code Talkers, Vandever helped the United States military communicate across the Pacific using a code that the Japanese never managed to break.
