Carlsbad Caverns elevator repairs moved to May

Officials at Carlsbad Caverns say they plan to have a temporary solution for the lack of elevators at the park by May.

The Current-Argus reports they plan on fixing some of the steel guide rails in the freight elevators that make the descent into the cave.

The elevators have not for a year. Park engineers called them unsafe, noting deterioration in some of the rails in the shaft.

Without the elevators, you can reach underground through the natural entrance, which means a steep 750-foot descent and ascent.
