Local company helping make steel for Carlsbad Caverns elevators

The contractor fixing the secondary elevators at Carlsbad Caverns has hired a local subcontractor.

Hall Machine and Welding Company now has the job of making the steel that reinforces the guiderails in the cavern.

This family-owned business has already started making a dozen steel beams and six angle beams.

Repair work begins Apr. 11. The park hopes to have the elevators working again by the end of May.

The secondary elevators stopped working last summer because of steel problems.

Motor failure in November shut down the primary elevators.
