Project could turn produced water into drinking water

A presentation at the Pecos Rivers Village Conference Center has highlighted a water project in Eddy and Lea counties.

The Current-Argus reports the project has to do with using produced water to improve drinking water.

Produced water comes from oil and gas drilling.

Martha Cather from the Petroleum Recovery Research Center says one oil barrel could produce six or seven barrels of water.

The project includes a database that shows produced water in different parts of the state.

The group has until the end of June to complete its research.
