Wild horse and burro adoption in Artesia

The BLM holds a wild horse and burro adoption in Artesia on Friday and Saturday.

The event includes adult and yearling horses and burros that once roamed free on public lands.

It runs at the Artesia Horse Council Arena on Friday afternoon from noon to 6 o’clock, and on Saturday morning from 8 to 10.

Those looking to adopt must have least 400 square feet of corral space per animal with free access to food, water and shelter.

Adult horses need a six-foot corral fence. Yearlings need just five feet, and burros four-and-a-half.

The adoption fee runs 125 dollars.
