Someone Is Stealing Pecans Around Artesia

We’re also learning that the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of pecans from a farm off East Castleberry Road on Thanksgiving Day. A surveillance camera system captured a picture of one of the thieves. The Current-Argus reports the farm owner says the thefts have been ongoing over the past several weeks, mostly in his fields around Artesia. ANyone with information on the pecan thief is asked to call 844-786-7227. Tips can also be left anonymously at eddycountycrimestoppers.com.

Some Stolen Archery Equipment Recovered

Some of the archery equipment that was stolen from the Eddy County Shoting Range Association has been recovered. Last week, we reported the theft of about $8,000 worth of archery items from the association at their shooting range in Artesia. Noone has been arrested, but deputies say they are following a few leads. If you know anything, call the sheriff.

Carlsbad Residents Report Receiving Strange Phone Calls

Some citizens have recently reported receiving a call from someone claiming to be from the Carlsbad mayor’s office and saying they need a voice recording or making other requests. The Carlsbad Mayor’s Office is NOT calling people and asking for voice recordings. The office sais it believes this may be part of a scam attempting to get your identification. The New Mexico Attorney General’s Office has a list of tips for dealing with such situations on their website. The Mayor’s office says it has contacted the police department. If you receive such a call, you can contact detectives at (575) 885-2111 (ext. 221).
