The city of Carlsbad is pondering the idea of switching to a radio signal to read water meters. The city is applying for a grant to the tune of a half million dollars that would pay for overhauling the current system that required a human to personally visit every meter and read it. The Carlsbad City COuncil has already apporoved the request tio pursue the grant from the Board of Reclamation’s WaterSMARty program. If approved, the Board of reclamation would pay for half the program.
