A high ranking member of the Artesia Police Department was placed on administrative leave following accusations that she struck a household member. Commander Chantel Longway was arrested by Chaves County deputies on Tuesday for a warrant by Dexter Police for battery and criminal damage to property. Artesia Poclie Chief Kirk Roberts released a statement that said Longway was involved in an alleged domestic altercation at her home in Dexter. Longway was released from the jail on her own recognizance.
