A deputy-involved shooting in Eddy County. New Mexico State Police were called in to investigate after 48 year-old Gabriel Mesa, of Carlsbad, was shot and killed by deputies. They had responded to a home at 4019 Jones Street in the Happy Valley area. The caller, a woman, told dispatchers that Mesa had pushed her down and fled the home with a gun. Deputies found Mesa in a nearby field and ordered him to surrender, but they say he pointed the handgun at the deputies, who fired on him, killing him.
