The Artesia Bulldogs were crowned state champions on Saturday. The school’s five year drought of state championships is finally over. The Bulldogs defeated Piedra Vista in Farmington by a score of 27-to-17 to earn the 5A title and the 31st championship overall in school history.
It was also redemption for Ruidoso on Saturday, who defeated Santa Fe St. Michaels 12-to-nothing for the 3A state title. Ruidoso lost last year’s title game to Lovington. Quarterback Cooper Pritchett threw two touchdown passes to Logan Sandoval. Ruidoso finishes the season 12-and 1.
