Prescribed Fire Planned In Lincoln National Forest

Fire managers on the Lincoln National Forest are planning to continue prescribed fire operations with a broadcast burn around the Sacramento Ranger District administration site. The objective of the burn is to reduce hazardous fuels around the site. The Sacramento prescribed fire is approximately 35 acres and will commence this spring when conditions meet the criteria in the prescribed burn plan.

Optimal conditions for this prescribed fire will result in short-duration smoke impacts. Smoke will be visible from the town of Sacramento with potential impacts to Weed and Agua Chiquita residents.

Our land management strategy is centered on long-term forest health, including reducing forest fuels and using prescribed fire on the landscape. Prescribed fires are intended to reduce hazardous fuels that have accumulated due to drought, climate change, insects and disease, and decades of fire suppression.
