New Mexico State Police have arrested a man in connection to last month’s deadly shooting at the Artesia public safety building. Records show Acadio Alonzo Lucero, of Artesia, was booked for murder for the death of 42 year old Mark Owen Rommel. State poclie say the investigation revealed that both men had been involved at different times with the same woman. Lucero was with that women at the public safety complex on October 12th, with the knowledge that Rommel would also be there. The two men got into a verbal fight that resulted in Lucero pulling a gun and firing a dozen rounds at Rommel. A nearby APD officer then opened fire on Lucero, recognizing him as a threat. Police reports show Lucero claiming afterwards that he acted in self defense.
