The Caerlsbad City Council has passed a new ordinance that aims to presevre the city’s history. The ordinance creates a new Historic Preservation Board. The move would also allow the city to earn a certified local government designation, which encourages preservation of cultural resources and promoted partnerships among local governments, the state and the National Park Service. The advisory board will make recommendations to the City of Carlsbad Planning and Zoning (P&Z) Commission and to the Carlsbad City Council on proposed historic designations and projects affecting historic properties within the city.
