Roswell Facilities Remain Closed Due To Flooding

The Roswell Air Center remains closed and all flights are cancelled for today due to the severe flooding problems that remain. An assessment of damage will be done today to determine if flights can resume by this afternoon. In addition, a number of other facilities remain closed, including the recreation and aquatic center, the Roswell Adult Center, Spring River Zoo, public library, museum and convention center, Nancy Lopez golf course, and South Park Cemetery. There will be no residential trash pickup today. Today’s collection will be moved to Tuesday and Tuesday’s collection to Wednesday. The municipal landfill is also closed today and municipal courts are not operating.

At leats two people are confirmed dead in the Spring River flooding, according to New Mexico State Police. The New Mexico National Guard rescued 290 people, including 38 people were were hospitalized. Officially, the weather service said 5.78 inches of rain fell on Saturday, surpassing the old record of 5.65 inches set back in 1901. 5.78 inches of rain is four times the average rainfall rate for the month of October.
