The Roswell City Council has adopted two policies that allow local citizens and businesses that are customers of the City of Roswell water utility – regardless of whether they are located in the city proper or outside it – to request credit (reductions) be applied to their water bills for certain reasons.
One policy allows for requests for credit because of financial hardship resulting from various reasons, including the unanticipated effects of the city’s recent water-rate adjustments. The policy containing the financial-hardship credit provisions also allows customers to make a credit request if their bills were impacted by leaks under certain conditions and stipulations, or if they have experienced financial hardships such as large medical expenses, loss of employment, military deployment and other reasons.
The second policy allows for credit requests from residential water customers who are at least 50-percent disabled and living at or below the federal poverty guidelines.
The full language of each of these policies, including specific eligibility requirements and conditions, as well as application forms, can be found online at roswell-nm.gov/178/Utilities-
Department. The policies and application forms can also be picked up at the Utility Billing Office at 415 N. Richardson Ave. Information about these new policies is also scheduled to be included in water customers’ bills during the next billing cycle.
