Artesia City Council News

At city council in Artesia this week, the council approved a land swap agreement with the school board. In the deal, the board will receive property at Roberts Park for the site of a new school. Once the new school is built, the existing Roselawn School property will then be given to the city.

Mayor Jon Henry said he would like to have a discussion regarding motorized scooters in Artesia. He says citizens have complained to him about safety concerns of the motorized scooters causing some issues. No action was taken.

In other council news, the city’s infrastructure director said that the 26th Street Project is on track to be completed by the end of next month. The current phase is working on 26th from Grand to Washington. The next phase of the project will move to the area between Washington to Ray.

The infrastructure director also told council members that the Grand Street project is now completed. Grand Street is now fully open both directions. The project dealt with replacing an old, leaking water line underneath the road.

The council has also approved moving trick-or-treating in Artesia from October 31st to Novemebr 1st. This is due to the Bulldogs football game on Halloween.
