20 million dollars in grants will be distributed through the New Mexico Fire Protection Grant Fund, and several Chaves County departments will benefit. Chaves County will get 434-thousand dollars of that money, going to Berrendo Fire for new breathing equipment and Dexter Fire for a new water tanker truck. Additionally, the Happy Valley Fire Department in Eddy County will get 400-thousand dollars for a facility improvement. Loving will get 89-thousand for a fill station, and Queen will get 300-thousand dollars for a new fire truck.
