A new program in Eddy COunty is aimed at keeping youth away from drugs and alcohol. It’s called “Be Above The Rim,” and it encourages participants to make good life choices through basketball. Spokesperson Edward Sanchez says the programming was developed by the Arkansas-based Center for Evidenced-Based Programming. Health education materials are also being districbuted throughotu local schools. A recent study showed use of opiates Vicodin, OxyContin, and Percocet increased slightly among high school seniors nationwide from 2021 to 2022.
