Xcel Energy is touting it’s economic impact on the region, claiming that it not only provides electricity to power to area’s robust economy, but also contributes a sunstantial amount of economic support through hundreds of millions of dollars spent on goods and services. The energy company also says it spends millions in taxes and fees paid to state and local governments. Last year, Xcel claims it bought nearly 784 million dollars in goods and services from businesses in Texas and New Mexico, while local governments and school districts benefitted from nearly 177-million dollars in franchise fees and tax revenues.
