Roswell Air Center Receives New Fire Fighting Truck

Roswell, N.M. — The Roswell Air Center on Monday (Oct. 6) received a new Oshkosh Striker 6×6
3000 Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Truck. This truck has twice the capacity of water and foam
than any of the air center’s existing fire equipment and has improved operational capabilities that
allow a single driver to operate it if necessary. Air center staff worked with the Roswell Fire
Department, which will operate the truck, to determine what was needed and select the most
suitable equipment to meet those needs.
With an increasing number of flights, additional military training operations, the National
Championship Air Races and multiple other new developments at the Roswell Air Center, this
equipment was a necessity to meet safety obligations. The approximately $1.5 million truck was
purchased using air center enterprise funds, so it was no expense to the city’s general fund. In
addition, the negotiated purchase price was about $500,000 less than the usual cost, and delivery
was made quicker than usual, because the truck was obtained after another entity canceled its
order for the equipment.
