Both Carlsnad and Artesia have enacted bans on certain fireworks, as the drought worsens throughout the region. The Carlsbad ordinance has actually been on the books for the past ten years, at least, prohibiting the use of aerial and ground audible fireworks. The city council extended the ban in a vote on May 24th. That same day, the city of Artesia enacted a similar ban, according to Mayor Jon Henry in a Facebook message. He said firework vendors in the city of Artesia must abide by rules and regulations once sales begin.
