New Details In Artesia Public Safety Complex Shooting

New details about the officer-involved shooting in the parking lot of the Artesia Public Safety Building. New Mexico State Poclie say two men – citizens – began arguing in the parking lot of the public safety complex at about 9:30 on October 12th. During the confrontation, one of the men pulled a gun and opened fire, striking and killing the other man. That victim is identified as 42 year old Mark Owen Rommell, of Artesia, who died at the scene. Officers in the area responded immediately and at least one officer fired his service weapon, striking the gunman, who is recovering today. The gunman’s name is not yet released and state polcie say they’re still trying to piece together the events that led up to the two men ending up in the parking lot of the Artesia Public Safety Complex.
